Easy Petrol Post Driver at Exhibition

country store with community at the heart

David Cobb from Cobbs Country Store is a man after our own heart, he is self-proclaimed to have a “tool for everything to make life easier”. We caught up with him at Midlands Machinery Show 2019 where he purchased some extra accessories for his Easy Petrol Post Driver.

Based in Newark the company is run by David and his cousin Steve. With David managing the Country Store and Steve running their Arable Farm and Highland Fold there’s a lot to do.

The store sells basically everything that might be needed for farming, smallholdings & equine; animal feed, bedding, fence posts, clothing, tools, ironmongery, saddlery, and everything in between. They have a loyal local customer base to whom they will deliver free of charge within 30 miles, and in the recent disastrous flooding of the areas their delivery tractor has “been a godsend”, David told us. People had been flooded in the area and couldn’t get out, nor their supplies in – Cobbs came to the rescue ensuring anything they might need was delivered.

Tractor in field

But in this modern era Cobbs know that diversification is key to success in the agriculture industry, they have run the shop for 29 years which is based on 15 acres, another 800 acres of arable land, plus renewable energy with a solar park.

Their latest venture will be a Coffee Shop due to open in the new year, which is where the Easy Petrol Post Driver comes in.

Supply by McVeigh Parker

David bought his Post Driver from McVeigh Parker when he was purchasing some Clipex Fencing – a new type of Galvanised Steel Fencing with innovative clip system for fixing to the fence. When the rep showed him the Easy Petrol Post Driver way to knock them in, he said “I just had to have one, and it’s certainly been worthwhile. We’ve done no end of jobs with it and we’ve been really pleased. So, hopefully, with these two new accessories for it, it’ll make it even more universal, more versatile.”

Customer Story Table

Conservation Pond and a Coffee Shop

Since purchasing the Post Driver David has naturally found some other jobs for it, including fencing a pond perimeter which is part of their Conservation Area (yes, even more diversification).

“I did 120 posts in half an hour – put them right around the pond. It was a lot easier to stand in the water and knock the posts in than trying to sling in an 8-pound sledgehammer. I love my toys, so I have a tool for everything. So, it’s worked well – a good investment.”

And today David is buying a few more accessories for his next piece of diversification…the Coffee Shop. Due to open in the new year they want the space to be smart and inviting for customers, so they plan to put up some pergolas and bird feeding stations. He has purchased a 4x4” Adapter, a 5x3” Adapter, and the Pilot Core Tool which will help him get these larger stake sizes into the ground.

Support for the Local Show

And finally David, how do you relax? “*laughing* We don’t get any of that! But coming to the show is a day off, its local so we come and support it. If you don’t support it you don’t keep ‘em. Plus like to come for new ideas.”

Thank you to David for catching up with us at the show, and best of luck with the store and all your new plans.
