Partridge Exterior Cleaning Puts the Westermann Moss Brush to the Test

We were delighted to see Sid and the team at Partridge Exterior Cleaning put the Westermann Moss Brush WR870 to good use when tackling an overgrown moss carpet in one of their videos. The popular YouTube channel creates incredibly satisfying cleaning videos that tackle everything from mossy roofs and driveways to neglected playgrounds, old barns, and even tanks and jets! Boasting an impressive 208k following and an array of tools and equipment to tackle these big jobs, we’re proud to see that Westermann machinery is a part of Sid’s exterior cleaning arsenal.

The job entailed cleaning a sizeable surface of heavily moss-covered tarmac spanning 640 square metres - or around 7000 square feet. To put it into perspective, that’s the equivalent of approximately two and a half doubles tennis courts!

The size and scope of the job wasn’t the only factor that made the job a challenge, but the fragility of the surface too. With a clean of this magnitude on a fragile drive, it’s imperative to tackle the moss removal in stages to make good progress without compromising the ground. Wanting to avoid aggressive pressure washing to prevent damaging the fragile path or leaving streaks, Sid opted to pre-treat the surface with a biocide a few weeks prior, before going in with the Westermann to rip up the thick layer of moss that had taken over the entire ground.

Although circumstances such as the weather and uneven inclines may not have been ideal, and certainly made the Westermann's job harder, it’s powerful wire brush still achieved an amazing clean considering the surface condition and the amount of moss that had accumulated.

The initial clean with the Westermann removed a large majority of the moss, with Sid planning to return to the site a few weeks later to complete the job with a very gentle pressure wash to remove any leftover remnants. By tackling the bulk of the moss mechanically first, the follow-up pressure wash becomes a quicker, easier task—saving both time and effort. This combination of approaches completely renewed the customer’s drive, and choosing a mechanical method instead of relying on a pressure washer to take care of the bulk of the work saved a great deal of water in the long run too.

Although the job isn’t finished by the end of the video, you can still clearly see how the Westermann has done a stellar job of loosening and removing the moss. The cleaned surfaces show a significant improvement, with visible transformations despite the various challenges. This transformation then enabled Sid and his team to easily clean up the debris, ready for them to follow-up with further treatments at a later date to complete the mammoth task. Check out some of the before and after pics of Partridge Exterior Cleaning’s brilliant work below!

Before: a small corner that was covered in hard to remove moss.

After: the small area that was once covered in moss, now cleared.

Before: a large space that was thick with moss.

After: a section of this large space has now been cleared, revealing the tarmac underneath.

10 reasons to choose the Westermann Moss Brush

1.     Professional alternative to pressure washing: Ideal for commercial and domestic use, it offers efficient hard surface moss removal with a petrol-powered wire brush.

2.     Superior to manual methods: The Westermann is more effective and less labour-intensive than a broom and shovel, easily cleaning cracks and crevices.

3.     Eco-friendly moss removal: A Westermann requires no harmful chemicals or water to operate for an eco-friendly alternative to traditional moss clearing methods.

4.     Reliable engine and brush design: Powered by a Honda engine with an 87cm bi-rotational brush for effective moss, weed, dirt and debris removal.

5.     Bi-rotational brush action: The brush’s clockwise and anti-clockwise action allows easy coverage of awkward areas without changing direction.

6.     Gentle on surfaces: The low vibration and scratch-free bristles ensure no damage to pointing, block paving or tarmac.

7.     Durable and long-lasting: Each brush lasts up to 5,000sqm, the equivalent to an acre and a quarter.

8.     Easily transportable: Its folding handles enable easy transport and help to secure strapping for van or trailer use.

9.     Adjustable height: The jockey wheel with a locking nut allows simple bristle height adjustment for various cleaning intensities.

10.  Versatile applications: The Westermann WR870 is suitable for wide commercial spaces and smaller, uneven domestic areas, including porous concrete and tight corners.
