A chemical-free requirement for moss & weed clearance
During the SALTEX Landscaping Exhibition at the NEC in 2018 we were approached by Bromford Housing wanting to discover more about our German engineered Westermann machines.
Brian Mackay, Landscaping Team Manager from Bromford Housing, told us of the 40,000 properties within the housing association, and their team of over 50 landscapers employed to keep all external areas clean and tidy.
He discussed with us their need for an environmentally friendly solution for keeping areas around their homes free from moss and weeds, having mentioned that chemicals are becoming less and less desirable.
Demonstration & company values
After the exhibition we invited them along to our HQ and brand-new showroom in Sheffield, and provided a demonstration and application test on all our products which might be suitable.
During this meeting we also uncovered a number of parallels in our operations.

Bromford Housing strive to deliver excellent services despite facing increasing pressure to reduce costs and achieve more for less, they recognised the benefits the Westermann range of sweepers would be able to provide.
They placed an order following the demonstration of;
- 1 x Westermann Ride-On Cleanmeleon 2, with 1000mm Wire Brush – Suitable for large areas & wide-open spaces.
- 4 x Westermann Pedestrian Moss Brushes, with 870mm Wire Brush – Suitable for large and small areas with restricted access, and when transport space is at a premium.
Both product ranges were taken with the premium Honda engine options, suitable for heavy commercial use.
Operator training
To enable the company to undertake all work in-house, Bromford are keen to work with partners and develop a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working at optimal efficiency.
With this in mind, we offered a full course of use and maintenance training on the Westermann products purchased to the companies Senior landscape team.
Over the course of the 4 hours training, we were able to share methods of work, when to utilise them, how to adapt to all different kinds of surfaces and how you can prolong brush life. Additionally, we talked through the routine maintenance and best health and safety practices which allows Bromford to ensure safe methods of working throughout.
