New Westermann Battery Weed Rippers Join the Westermann EGO Powered Family

In case you missed it, we recently launched the new Westermann EGO Battery Moss Brush at GroundsFest 2025. This innovative battery-powered version of the existing Westermann Moss Brush WR870 has already been turning heads in the industry with its impressive EGO battery system, even winning an award during its launch weekend for best new Landscape Equipment at the inaugural GroundsFest Innovation Awards!

With this new product making such big waves in the landscaping industry from the very start, we knew that we needed to extend our offering of the Westermann EGO family to include other popular machines. That’s why we’re delighted to announce that two Westermann Weed Rippers are joining the EGO Battery range. The Westermann WKB430 EGO Battery Weed Ripper and Westermann EGO Battery Weed Ripper WKB660 will feature the same professional-grade EGO 56V battery system, taking your eco-friendly hard surface cleaning to the next level.

What makes the Westermann Battery Weed Ripper different from the petrol models?

A Westermann Weed Ripper already eliminates the need for harsh chemicals and pesticides that harm the environment and local eco system. So, while we already champion the Westermann Weed Ripper range as an eco-friendly weed removal solution, if you’re looking to take your environmental practices even further, then a battery-powered Weed Ripper might be for you.

With people becoming more and more eco-conscious, many landscaping and grounds maintenance professionals are looking to invest in more sustainable technology that has the environment’s best interest in mind. For many in the industry, this means pivoting from petrol power to embracing electric tools.

Battery-powered tools have never had the best reputation, often seen as never quite being able to match the power of a petrol engine, especially in a professional setting. But now, with EGO batteries, this concern is a thing of the past - you can rest assured knowing that you’re choosing petrol-matching power when you go EGO. See the table below for run times per full charge for different batteries.

Investing in a battery-powered weed removal machine now will also help you stay ahead of government regulations as the UK continues to review its environmental policies and encourage businesses and homeowners to go green. A Westermann Weed Ripper will already help you comply with many UK Councils that are pesticide-free, or are in the process of phasing out their usage of pesticides. However, by investing in an EGO battery model, you can take your eco-friendly practices one step further by producing no fumes and less noise pollution.

Going electric means zero emissions, giving you the edge over other contractors in places where petrol emissions may be banned or highly monitored, such as schools, hospitals or areas where strict regulations are in place to improve air quality (such as ULEZ). Although ULEZ/LEZ regulations primarily apply to non-compliant road vehicles, with the UK looking to phase out fossil fuels in the next 25 years and things like the London NRMM LEZ (Non-Road Mobile Machinery Low Emission Zone) already in place, preparing for the future as these regulations inevitably spread beyond the roads and major cities should be on the radar of every professional in the industry.

What's the run time per charge on a Westermann EGO Weed Ripper?

Fitted with a professional-grade EGO battery motor, EGO’s unique 56V ARC Lithium™ batteries deliver an incredible 60 minutes of run time when using the largest 12Ah batteries. When using other battery sizes, the run time can be calculated at 5 minutes per Ah, allowing you to match battery size to your workload.

Both machines are available in two options. If you already work with other EGO battery-powered equipment and have no need for more batteries or chargers, we can supply the Machine Only – this is just the body with no batteries or chargers included. This is a great option if you’ve already invested in the Westermann EGO Moss Brush with a battery bundle.

If this is your first investment in EGO-powered tools, or perhaps you want to add different battery sizes to your existing collection, we can supply the machine in a Bundle option, with 2 EGO batteries and 1 rapid charger included.

What's the difference between a Moss Brush and a Weed Ripper?

The Moss Brush WR870 range is designed for removing moss, and small weeds that are typically up to 2 months old. It features one large bi-directional wire brush for getting into the cracks and crevices.

The Weed Ripper WKB range, on the other hand, has been designed to remove more stubborn, established weeds that are typically more than 2-3 months old. Where the Westermann Moss Brush has one larger wire brush that spins clockwise and anti-clockwise, the Westermann Weed Rippers feature several individually rotating braided wire brushes (the WKB430 has 6, while the WKB660 has 12) to attack thick, overgrown weeds from all angles at high speed.
